![]() Committing to a workout regimen can be difficult for some people, but with a little determination and consistency, that commitment can turn into being a part of your regular routine like brushing your teeth or walking the dog. No matter what your level of commitment is, the smallest thing can demotivate you. As I look through the screen of my third story apartment window, I can barely see the parking lot. There are so many droplets of rain in the tiny squares of the window screen, they are not only clouding my vision of the dreary day, but clouding my vision of my workout plans. Some people love the sounds of the rain drops as they hit the window pane; It calms them, I’m not one of those people, it’s a DRAG to me. I have errands to run and volunteer work later today and of course….exercise. But wait, that requires using energy! I’ve got the “It’s Raining, I Don’t Want To Do Anything Especially Workout Blues.”
At some time or another we have all made an excuse for why an errand can’t be run or visit to a friend can’t be made. Usually the task lowest on the totem pole is exercise, especially for those beginning a workout regimen. It’s OK to be a lazy Lima bean every once in a blue moon, but once a commitment is made to your health; stick to it. So your excuse could be that you’re a jogger, it’s raining and you can’t jog in the rain. I give you that, wouldn’t want you to catch a cold. It may be that you worked later than normal, it’s dark and power walking this time of night may not be safe. Agreed, a walk isn’t worth you ending up on Nancy Grace. So what’s the alternative? Today, I called a friend and we will be doing some gut busting, sweat bead forming Pilates on my living room floor. (Ok maybe not that strenuous, but a good workout nonetheless) There’s nothing wrong with a good old fashioned workout video. Push-ups, crunches, stretching; anything that will get you blood pumping is better than nothing. Don’t let a rainy day be an excuse not to workout, turn into a sunny day excuse not to workout. The next thing you know, you’ll be right back where you started…NOT WORKING OUT AT ALL! The rain may not have stopped, but now I must stop the “It’s Raining, I Don’t Want To Do Anything Especially Workout Blues.” There’s the knock at the door, my friend is here…let the Pilates commence.
