Many thanks to one of my readers named Mike that called me out for never finishing the story. How slack of me as a story teller to NOT finish telling a story! Well here it goes!

![]() I'm sure you've heard the saying "sitting on the fence." It's an idiom used to express the actions of a person who attempts to practice neutrality by not choosing sides. Another reason may be that the person finds it difficult to make a decision based on inability or fear. There are some people that can't grasp the idea of not being able or willing to make a definitive choice; while still others can't understand how some people choose without hesitation. So, why do people choose to be indecisive? Are you using emotional protection? The delicate balance of choice, strength and vulnerability5/3/2017 ![]() It's easy to feel like you can take on anything and everything. Our fast paced lifestyles have made stress and lack of motivation a common issue in many of our lives. I know, because this is something that has affected me too! Whether people like to admit it or not, humans are emotional creatures. With that comes the possibility of us leaving ourselves open to make meaningful relationships with others; but it also leaves us open to take on too much of what other people have happening in their lives. How can we find the balance between taking on what we must and leaving the rest behind? We can find a way to protect ourselves emotionally. Hey, you're in my seat! -Looking past inconvenience and finding purpose in interactions with others.11/3/2016 ![]() I was on a flight to NYC, settled in my seat and ready to go! I'm a bit of a rebel so you know what I say to turning my "devices" off ? NOPE! I'm going to rock out to my travel playlist as G-Force lets my organs know that it is in charge, if only for a few brief moments during take off. As the plane climbs, the altitude lets me know that my ears are at its mercy. I said my prayer for safety (which I do anytime I set out on a trip) and look forward to an uneventful, turbulence-free flight. The flight attendant came to make her final checks of the overhead compartments and then it happened.... ![]() There is no doubt that the current social and political upheavals we are experiencing have at times reached the boiling point. Just when you thought things couldn't get worse, an event test the very fabric of not just our individual ability to adapt, it also test how humanity will adapt. Here are 5 steps that you can take on a personal level that will help you find that healthy balance when dealing with different types of media As of now, my following is small but loyal so thank you for that. As I am aware that we all experience hectic periods in our lives, I don't need to tell you that during those periods spreading yourself thin is bound to happen. That is exactly what I did over the last few weeks.
First let me apologize to my readers. I appreciate you visiting my page and me not posting seems sort of like I'm a slacker. But I'm not. I have a few projects that I have now moved past the conceptualizing stages and I am FINALLY moving (slowly but surely) forward on them. My biggest endeavor is that I am entering a short film festival within the next few months! This is something that I have wanted to do for years and I decided that I won't wait anymore to do it so the time is NOW!!!! Exciting!! But considering I got my degree in social sciences, I have learned very quickly the my creative nature and eagerness to do this project is just a small piece of making a film, no matter how short or long it is. It will be a labor of love, but it's a journey that I'm looking forward to taking so stay tuned for more information about my short and the festival that I am entering. In the meantime, I'm committing to post stories twice a month. As time permits I will try to post a Shortie here and there. Once I've settled into successfully wearing all the hats that I have on my creativity hook, I will be back in full force. Thanks again for understanding. If you are someone like me that has some dietary restrictions or just wants to try a new, healthier way to still eat the foods you love, then check out my how-to video. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll like it. This is a continuation of my I'm proud of series. This installment is for my dear friend Kim Graves . It's a fitting day to do so because it's HER BIRTHDAY. I'm proud of Kim for her becoming veritable powerhouse entrepre-mom. Mommy, Photographer, piano lessons, full time gig...I mean aren't there just 24 hours in a day?! Her secret? Not 100% sure, but she's always been a firecracker and I doubt that trait will ever cease. Plus, she's kind of a good friend too! Love you Kimmy.
Ever experience the feeling of "buyer's remorse"? The feeling that you get when you commit to something and start to experience feelings of doubt or displeasure of your decision. It can happen to the best of us because I have experienced it before. Are you questioning a commitment? Here's a way to renew your renew your drive for the changes you commited to.With surgery on my arm eminent, I explored styling options for my hair. Well, hair we go...to the wig sto! I am on a new journey toward recovering from a surgery on my left arm. Click read more for the video. ![]() This tactic I do not understand. Ok, wait... Before I start my rant, let's explore this behavior shall we? Shaquille O'neal could've been in this car. Makes sense that he would think about the cars next to him. He's a nice, good natured guy. He was probably thinking... "Oh my, how rude it would be of me to ding this person's vehicle. I am a big man and I do require so much more space than, say , the tiny person driving the cars next to mine. I should just take up two spaces." Wait, wait.... Better still, it could have been Horton. You know, Horton the elephant... The one that hears The Who's. He's a sensitive and caring bloke. He may have been thinking... "Well, I would probably get more room if I parked in a handicapped space but that would be wrong. There must be a another solution so I'll just mosey along. I'm an elephant not handicap, now that is a fact. I'll park in two spaces, that takes care of that!" ![]() One could argue that maybe the driver of the car could be super-sized like Shaq and Horton. They very well could be. They may NOT be and none of former happened, let's be honest. What did happen is that someone thought that their car was more important than anyone else's car. They didn't care that someone else could have been inconvenienced by their park job. They thought that someone could put a dent or scratch the paint of their car. You know they did! We all have thought that at some point, however most of us know and accept the risk of unfortunate things like that happening because we are in public and no matter how much we don't want something to happen to our vehicle, it can. ANYTHING can happen at ANYTIME! I don't care if you park in the middle of 4 spaces, have guard dogs that you carry around with you with tasers around their necks, ready to strike at a moment's notice to protect your car; those measures WILL NOT stop what is meant to happen from happening. Taking up multiple parking spaces solves nothing. Park in the back of the lot and stop putting people out because you think that your vehicle is flyest thing on wheels. If you are that concerned about your vehicle, leave it home and take an Uber, JERK! Where's a meteor or space trash or those random parts that fall off of planes when you need it. People , if you're doing this.... STOP! Horton the Elephant- source: http://www.clipartpanda.com/clipart_images/dr-seuss-clip-art-2185221
There's a grocery store that I shop occasionally that requires you to insert a quarter to use a shopping cart. That's right, I'm talking about Aldi. I'm not ashamed to say it. If you can get past the nondescript, aesthetically boring interior that can occasionally smell like a bleachy mop; you are bound to find good deals. Especially with their organic vegetables which are displayed like an indoor farmer's market. It's like Trader Joe's. Ok, kinda. Just minus the fly playlist playing on the speakers and tattooed covered associates with multi colored hair, body piercings, smelling of hemp and patchouli. Point is, don't sleep on Aldi people.
Recently, I was in a discussion with someone about accomplishments that we had reached in our lives and ones that we aspire to reach in the future. They asked me, "What are you proud of?". I began to think to myself about all the things that I had done and came up blank for more than a few. Whether from modesty or forgetfulness, I shared a few things with them and the conversation moved onto another topic. It wasn't until yesterday (in the random moments where my mind wanders, you know while driving or brushing your teeth) that the conversation struck me. I had forgotten that there are more things to be proud of than just my own accomplishments and accolades. I realized that I found great satisfaction in knowing that the people that I hold near and dear have reached some of their own. So I vow today and I task you with doing the same; regularly check in with yourself and let those people know that you are proud of them too! Of course there are others that I am proud of. This is just the first installment of my new topic line "I'm proud of..." Stay tuned.
He just won't stop! Sampson (the boxador) eats everything. Ok, I'm exaggerating; not everything, but damn near everything. Last year, after leaving him out of his kennel for about an hour and a half the fallout of my decision was devastating. Ingredients for the perfect storm 1. 2 bars of neutrogena soap 2. 2 packets of dark chocolate Swiss Miss 3. Part of an ikea type reusable shopping bag 4. A plastic sandwich bag 5. A dropped laptop 6. A dropped new IPAD AIR 2 7. $200 vet bill and God only knows what else could be in that dogs stomach 8. The face of an exhausted woman who is busted and disgusted ![]() I will admit that there has been some changes going on around him. His mom traveled quite a bit at the end of the year. She has since moved to follow her dream of living in the Big Apple, I was working 3 jobs...needless to say, a lot going on. Just like a child, dogs can get separation anxiety and act out. And boy o boy has Sampson acted out! His latest adventures: Plastic Spoon Doggie poop bags The silicone covers off of my bluetooth(s) Multiple earbuds I can't remember all of them, but he has eaten: Knee highs Cotton balls used to remove nail polish (this I don't get) Lotion bottles Make-up Cardboard boxes Hormel coupons (This, is in another story, stay tuned) Ok, you get the point. He has since moved to NY with his mommy. That means no more consumption of my belongs. But he has left me with an awareness of things that should not be left out around animals and and a special place in my heart for him. He will be missed....furry earth disturber! This topic is VERY near and dear to me. I've struggled with adult acne for years. After I turned 25 my skin went through a second puberty and hasn't stopped. It affects my face, shoulders and back. I can recall times being in public and feeling as if ALL eyes were on me. Especially if I was having a one on one interaction or standing in line at the store. I became self conscious wondering if people were genuinely staring at my blemishes or if I was being paranoid. The fact that my acne is caused by a health condition is irrelevant to strangers. I don't have to make excuses or explain why my skin looks the way it does to ANYONE. What they think about when they see my acne, I have no control over. I do have control over how I react and feel about it.
Please know that living with acne (all skin conditions for that matter) is past the aesthetics! These conditions affect a person emotionally and psychologically. In some cases, I can attest to the pain and discomfort that can happen physically. Seeing it, daily, is hard enough without somebody giving you grief for it. As strong willed as I am, I still struggle with this. So to all those effected by skin conditions ..be proud of who you are. Your beauty doesn't change, just other people's perceptions of your beauty do because of societal "norms" and their acceptance of them. Your true nature and inner beauty will always out shine any makeup or crappy comment. For those who don't like how you look because of it... They can f-off! #ILEAM (I love everything about me) Headphones-check
iPod-check Workout clothes-check Sneakers-check Socks....socks...so.. CRAP😒 #getitin anyway-check It is easy to get side tracked from our goals. One of my life goals was to live as healthy as I possibly could without feeling belabored. I never wanted my health to feel like a chore, however at one point it did. In the past I struggled with maintaining a consistent workout schedule. I always found things like the weather, traffic, really anything that posed as an excuse for me not to exercise. In some cases making a concession is necessary as more important situations take precedence. Other than those unavoidable times, my excuses were based in non-commital. Several years ago, I experienced some health issues where I was confronted with the options of eating right and excercising to decrease or end pr No excuses. Don't just toe the line, cross it! Besides my feet don't stink anyway😉 The alarm goes off. I hit the snooze button. It goes off again. I realize that I'm late and that the lights are out. That's when I start to question my colorblindness and play close care to the clothes that I pick to wear as not to look like a hot mess at work.
Lights being out is an inconvenience. At some point in the day the service will be restored. I am reminded of the fact that there are people across the globe that don't have lights or running water. So, the fact that I have on a grayish elephant graphic T and some whatever this color is linen pants ... Is not that serious. Thank God everyday for the little things, because for someone else it could be a very big deal. |
